Coach Profile: Fran Bungay
Fran is an experienced sports coach specialising in triathlon. She is a level 3 British Triathlon Federation (BTF) triathlon coach, Trisutto certified, and is a coach educator as part of the BTF coach develop programme. Goalspecific was established in 2010 and Fran works with a range of athletes from novice triathlete to age group gold medalists and elite athletes.
Fran is also an accomplished athlete in her own right having won 8 medals competing for the Great Britain age group team including 2 European titles. In 2015 Fran won 3 consecutive Ironman 70.3 titles including the European Championship in Weisbaden (40-44) and was world ranked number 1 in her age group.
Description of Fran Bungay
Fran is also the head coach of Tri Purbeck based in Dorset. Fran set the club up in 2009 primarily as a junior squad, however the club grew and families of all ability and ages train with the club. Fran’s coaching expertise and insight comes partly from her own experience, starting as a breast stroking novice in 2007 and developing into one of the UK’s top age group athletes whilst working with other experienced coaches along the way. She is also a BTF coach mentor working voluntarily with coaches and supporting those completing the Level 3 BTF High performance course. She is also a certified Ironman U coach, qualified personal Trainer and is a certified Sports and Exercise Nutritional Adviser.
She has an excellent reputation as a swim coach adopting the Trisutto philosophy through both one to one coaching and her popular swim squads, turbo sessions and training camps.
What have you achieved in your coaching career?
Fran has coached athletes from complete novices to gold medal winners in AG championship events from sprint duathlon through to long distance and has coached juniors to elite level including UK national champions. She has also coached older athletes on a journey from complete non-swimming novice to successful Ironman, achieving performances beyond their expectations.
