Why Most Triathlon Training Fails

Modern triathlon training has become overly complicated.

Athletes are buried under

• heart-rate zones

• power curves

• recovery scores

• endless metrics.

But performance does not come from numbers.

It comes from consistent work done correctly over time.

The Trisutto Training System

The training approach developed by legendary coach Brett Sutton

This system has produced

• Olympic medalists

• Ironman world champions

• WTCS podium athletes

Instead of chasing data, we focus on the fundamentals that consistently produce results:

• aerobic conditioning
• strength endurance
• consistency and repetition

• durability across seasons
• mental toughness
• learning to listen to the body

It works just as well for committed age-group athletes.

From Athlete to Coach

I didn’t start as a coach — I started as an athlete trying to figure it out.

Like many athletes, I tried to follow the “perfect” training programs — chasing heart rate zones, power numbers, and complicated systems.

Progress was slow.

Everything changed when I began working with legendary coach Brett Sutton and the Trisutto system.

The focus shifted from data to consistent work and durability.

Since 2013 I have coached alongside Brett Sutton and Susie Langley at training camps around the world.

Today I coach athletes ranging from beginners to professionals across multiple continents.

That experience is what I bring to every athlete I coach.

What It's Like To Train Under The Trisutto System

This is not a data-driven coaching system.
We prioritise consistency over intensity, durability over short-term performance, and feel over numbers.

  • Personalised training plans tailored to your specific needs

  • Direct communication with myself

  • Training guidance using the Trisutto system

  • Perceived effort preferred over data

  • Consistency instead of 'hero workouts'

  • Sport-specific strength work built into swim, bike and run workouts

  • Season planning for year round improvement e.g. 'off' season focus areas

  • Technique analysis

  • Bike position advice

  • Race selection, preparation and strategy

  • Training camps and in-person opportunities

  • Equipment selection advice

Coaching is not just a training plan.

It is a partnership built on consistency and two-way communication.

What athletes say

Real feedback from athletes I coach across all levels — from first-time finishers to world champions.

I missed Kona qualification multiple times before working with Robbie.
Within a year, I qualified and raced my best Ironman.

- John, Kona Qualifier

We did it - sub 9 hours! Everything came together on race day and I executed the plan from start to finish.

- Michal, Sub-9 Ironman, IM Vitoria-Gasteiz, 2024

We did it!

- Daniela Ryf, Ironman World Champion 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021

Loved the race and whole experience! We nailed the swim and bike, and I finished my first Ironman strong. The run was tough but we know exactly what to improve next. 🙂

- Lachlan, First-Time Ironman Finisher, IM Western Australia, 2025

I had a great race. My swimming and cycling were strong, and I ran as well as I possibly could on the day. I'm really proud of how I executed - this was my best performance at this level.

 - Andrea, 70.3 World Championship, 2025.

My 3rd Alpe d'Huez race and by far my best. I didn't suffer like the previous two races and was able to race with control. Very happy with the result.

- Ralf, Alpe d'Huez finisher, 2025
